A Seminar titled
"Money Boulevard"
on "Indian Debt and Money Markets - Evolution and Prospects."
at S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai

SPJIMR, Mumbai organized "Money Boulevard"- a seminar on "Indian Debt and Money Markets - Evolution and Prospects." This is the first time a B-school has organized a seminar on the debt markets. The Chief Guest of the event, Ms. Usha Thorat, CGM of RBI, Internal Debt Management, spoke on Evolution of Monetary Policy - Impact on Financial Markets - Regulator's perspective". However, she observed that in today's world the financial markets impact the monetary policy.

The first presentation was on "Market Development - The Road Ahead - Practitioner's perspective" by Mr. Nilesh Shah, Director & CIO - Fixed Income, Templeton Asset Management (India) Limited. The panel discussion that followed comprised Ms. Shanti Ekambaram, Director, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company Limited, Mr. Monish Tahilramani, Head of Interest Rate Trading, HSBC and Mr. R. Govindan, AGM - L & T.

Next in line was a presentation by Mr. Sudhir Joshi, Treasurer, HDFC Bank Limited & Chairman of Fixed Income Money Market & Derivatives Association (FIMMDA). He spoke on "The criticality of Self Regulatory Organizations (SROs) in Market Development". This was followed by a panel discussion by Mr. G.V. Nageswara Rao, Managing Director, IDBI Capital Market Services Limited, Mr. N. Balasubramanian - Dy. General Manager - Global Market Group - ICICI Bank Limited, Mr. Nimish Shah, Director & CEO Parag Parikh Financial Advisory Services Ltd.

Mr. S.R. Kamath, General Manager, Securities Trading Corporation of India Ltd. coordinated both the panels.

The underlying theme running through the seminar was to juxtapose the perspective of the principal stakeholders of the money and debt markets and to weave an element of convergence around these perspectives. Viewed from the point of view of the various students who attended from B schools around Mumbai, it imparted a feel of the market at the hands of the movers and shakers as well as a feel of the principles governing the nuts n bolts of the money and debt market. The seminar drew an enthusiastic response from industry as well as the student community.
