Netting the Customer
Punita Pandey CEO Netcustomer at SPJIMR

Entrepreneurship and giving free rein to one's imagination can lead to unimaginable levels of self-actualization. Ms. Punita Pandey who had visited the S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research on Friday is just such a person who in an advanced stage in her career felt that there was more to life than just a 9 to 5 job. It was to explore this unchartered side of life that she left her plumb IT job in Silicon Valley and started investing time and expertise in a germ of an idea that she had nurtured for close to ten years.

True Business Process Outsourcing was just a concept in 1999 when Punita endeavored to cache in on this idea and convert it to a business opportunity. At that point in time she did not have many contemporaries who thought it would be profitable. But could a person who was working previously with such august companies like Delloite Consulting go wrong? Well she almost did, since it was at that strategic time that the dot comboom was going on, with more dotcom companies than brick and mortar entities. NetCustomer when it came into being was not just a dotcom, it thrived on a different business model, something that actually created value for the clients by paring down costs, building a long term relationship and providing immense quality. However, since it was not conforming to the trends ruling the Valley, it became difficult to attract venture capital and that is when the true entrepreneurial spirit that was driving this young dynamic lady became apparent.

NetCustomer developed its industry-leading offshore outsourcing model in close collaboration with some of the leading companies in the world. Their methodology was road-tested with great success stories. NetCustomer offered deep expertise in supporting and maintaining a wide variety of enterprise applications such as Human Resources Management, Financials, Customer Relationship Management, and Supply Chain Management. The company concentrated on PeopleSoft services and Enterprise Infrastructure Services.

People have been the greatest asset for NetCustomer and this translates into better processes, faster development cycles, fewer errors and far-reaching vision. Punita stated that management models once validated become the test-tube that fosters true value and growth for a modern company. This was evidenced in the refined "Pilot project" model where NetCustomer works exhaustively with its clients to add value at all stages in the technical cycle, so much so that their billing rates have gone up over the last three years.

It was amazing to have a person of such vigour and acumen as Ms.Pandey who was winning her battles against heavy odds, at such a young age. This just goes on to show why exactly India is shining in the Silicon Valley where her ambassadors are young, market-savvy, suave, and in this case extremely beautiful youngsters.
