5th batch of
Post-Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT)

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) has been at the forefront of creating a new paradigm of management education that combines rigor and relevance to achieve the twin objectives of 'influencing practice' and 'imbibing value based growth' in the Indian context.

Life at SPJIMR is a journey through education, sprinkled with a variety of academic and non-academic learning that go beyond the conventional method. The entire learning process is focussed on inculcating in participant's sensitivity to real-world issues and an ability to become leaders of tomorrow in their chosen fields.

One among many others is the Post-Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT) program offered at SPJIMR. The 5th batch of PGDIT was inaugurated by the Honorary Dean, Dr. M. L. Shrikant on August 18, 2003. Prof. Sunil Rai, Chairperson, Center for Information Technology gave a brief introduction on all aspects of the PGDIT course.

Prof. Sunil Rai says, "The ever changing and dynamic business environment that relies heavily for Information Technology Enabled processes requires committed IT professionals with purposeful business sense. PGDIT promises to deliver such products ".

PGDIT is a two-year full time program to prepare participants to design and develop IT solutions conforming to international quality standards that address the wide-ranging requirements of Corporates.

The program is aimed at developing a well-rounded capability suitable for a potential "team leader" for IT projects. The program dimensions include managerial and technical competence relevant for design, development and implementation of Business Applications.

On successful completion of the course the participants can take up roles in select companies in following capacities:

Module Leaders/ Project Leaders in IT companies (Services & Products).
System/ Network Administrators in User companies/ BPO firms.

Prof. S. S. Desai, placement coordinator (PGDIT) says "IT being used in all functional areas of the industry, brings about opportunities not only in Software Development but also in ITES extensively. Areas like ERP, CRM, SCM, BIS have gained importance and hence there is a tremendous need in these areas. PGDIT candidates are technocrats well equipped with managerial skills to develop and maintain quality applications".

The Centre maintains, modifies and upgrades the IT Infrastructure of the Institute (Hardware, Software and Network). It also maintains all the IT application systems at SPJIMR, e.g. Intranet, e-learning, library management.

The concept and design of the PGDIT Program is based on the following tenets:

The IT professionals of the future have to be multi-faceted, with a good understanding of business and management processes in the context of IT applications, communication skills, and thorough understanding of IT application lifecycle.
IT Industry's need for strong designers and developers of applications using sophisticated methodologies and tools.

The program dimensions are:

Exposure to business situations and management practices
Thorough understanding of technologies, use of methodologies and tools
Ability to conceive, analyze and design IT solutions
High level of designing and development skills
Self - learning and group working ability

Today 144 PGDIT students are out in the in the IT industry doing the Institute proud in companies like TCS, Datamatics, LTITL, MBT, PCS, I-flex Solutions Ltd., Tata Infotech Ltd., Wipro GE Medical Systems, ICICI Infotech Ltd., Satyam, Reliance Infocom, Blue Star Infotech Ltd., Tata Interactive Systems, Nexstep Infotech Pvt. Ltd. and Cytel.
