Talk with the CFO of Infosys

The CFO of Infosys, T. V. Mohandas Pie recently visited Xavier institute of Management for a talk. The members of National HRD Network as well as the faculty and students of XIMB attended the session. It was a formal gathering in the newly constructed auditorium of the institute where Mr. Pie spoke about the future potential of this country as well as the challenges ahead for a B-school graduate.

He started the presentation in his own inimitable style drawing attention to the growth drivers of Indian economy. According to him, India is at a take-off point. He pointed out the huge potential of service sector in India that is comparable to that of manufacturing sector in China. He spoke about the huge pool of human resources, which would provide India the boost for driving economy faster. Highlighting facts and figures regarding the composition of English speaking community in the world, he proved the importance of Indians worldwide. He also asserted that the growing nuclearisation of family and increase in no. of "young earners" would provoke consumer consumption. This would get translated in huge market for producers in future. Emergence of up-market restaurants, shopping malls prove the point. The consumer would spend more due to easy availability of finance schemes, which were not there earlier.

Mr. Pai mentioned about various growth sectors in Indian economy. But, his focus was on IT sector, which had shown immense potential off late. He gave the credit to the high standard of our education system coupled with proactive policies of Govt.

He expressed his own views regarding the implications of this growth on B-school graduates. The future managers should be highly competitive with global outlook. According to him, managers should possess domain expertise and customer facing skills, team skills and they should innovate continuously. He spoke about three C's which the B-school graduates should do - Change, Continue and Continue to change.
