Press Release Continuing the tradition of talks by industry stalwarts at XIMB, a talk was organized on the 24th of August 2004, which saw Mr. Bijay Sahoo - VP and Global HR Head, Wipro Technologies addressing the students. It was a highly interactive session and was a great learning experience for the students. The talk focused not only on Wipro as a company but also its HR policies as well the IT industry. IT as we all know is the second wave of globalization in India that will create demand not only for technical experts but also for other functional areas. Hence the talk was relevant for people opting for any specialization. Mr. Sahoo gave an insight into the working of Wipro and the various policies it follows. Wipro is a preferred employer and to certify this are the numerous awards that it has received. In the Hewitt top companies survey, it received the award for the best company among IT companies as well as for leaders in Asia. Its HR policy consists of the P's - people, productivity and profitability. It believes in the motto of attracting, motivating and retaining its employees. It has a huge talent pool of human resources consisting of a healthy mix of young and experienced people, who are highly educated but also highly motivated. For every $100 that it earns it spends $51 on its employees. Hence their major cost centers are its people cost but despite this its attrition rate of around 15% continues to be a source of worry. Wipro has certain values, which are intrinsic to it. They are - innovative solutions, value for money, integrity and human values. With these values in mind the company wants a life that is a journey and at no stage a destination.
