FINAX
Mergers and acquisition game
The Merger & Acquisitions Game is an aggressive, merger-oriented business simulation that focuses on how firms deal with the aftermath of a merger.
Traditionally, companies bought competitors to gain market share or market access. Then, they promptly cut costs to recoup the often-inflated purchase price, too frequently destroying much of the value they had acquired.
In this time of transition, the reasons for mergers are often different. Companies focusing heavily on the capabilities and culture brought about by a merger can drive the combined business forward.
Winners of the Mergers & Acquisitions Game seek to:
* Unlock new economy value;
* Deal with business and financial risk;
* Sell surplus assets;
* Downsize;
* Integrate IT;
* Develop flexible relationships; and
* Hire key talent.
Finax will also be presenting the derivative game wherein a virtual derivative market based on stocks will be created. The participants will be required to write and buy various derivative instruments.
FIRE@X
The Forum for Industrial Relations at XLRI
What is required is exposure to the industrial relations arena where things happen that tax the resources of the best of brains and strategists. For students, there cannot be a better way to do this than by interacting with practicing managers and by imbibing and building upon their experiences. It is with this intention that FIRE@X conducts various workshops with the active participation of practicing managers and people closely related to the industrial scenario
All efforts are being made to ensure that we keep this spirit of entrepreneurship up by organizing a case competition for ENSEMBLE this year. The structure of the competition will be as given: Teams will be in pairs, one enacting the role of management, and one that of the union; each pair will be given a case and they will argue it out and they will be judged on that; the winners go on to the next round where they follow the same structure. the purpose is to see how well the teams bring out their knowledge of labour law, industrial relations, their ability to handle tough and problematic situations and plain common sense; the simulation will not only provide good practice, but will also be thoroughly enjoyable for the participants.
MAXI
"Change is the only constant" is dead. Long live change. In today's turbulent times, one blink, one slip and your company ends up at the bottom of the pile. "Lead or perish" is the anthem of the times. Increased consumer awareness, dwindling PLCs and stiff challenges from round the corner have forced companies to have a relook into their traditional solutions. S..T.. R.. E.. T..C.. H yourselves and stretch the paradigms, is the new mantra. If u got the idea there's no stopping you.
We at MAXI this year propose to pit the best b-schools against each other in a fight to the finish race of market superiority and leadership. We propose to bring out the Kotlers and the Ogilvys, test their fundaas, creativity and market savviness; evaluate their mettle to run the obstacle course, and win, by churning out the best solutions.
The following events have been designed to test the mettle of the competitors in Ensemble: -
1. Advertising and creative marketing contest
2. Case simulations
3. The marketing game
SAPPHIRE - (Student's Association for the Promotion of Personnel Management, Human Resources and Industrial Relations)
The society that has contributed to the HR dimension of XLRI for 14 years since it's inception, has the onus of organizing workshops, simulation exercises, showcases, debates, paper writing and case study competitions on campus each year. And not to forget the National HR Conference organized every alternate year (involving participation from industry experts).
For Ensemble 2002, SAPPHIRE intends to organize two events. Both the events aim at learning through fun. Hence are structured in the form of games involving group participation, presentations, rebuttal sessions, and of course attractive prizes.
SOCRATES

The participants will be required to submit their analyses in advance after which the short listed candidates would be invited to present their solutions before a panel of judges.
* A Software Project Management Game : This game will simulate the execution of a real life software project. While the customer, all members of the project, and the emerging documents will be simulated, the role of the head of a project will be taken by a team of players. In the beginning and during the game, the players would receive messages regarding the project, and will be required to use their time and resources (employees etc.) in a way such that the project is finished successfully.

The problem definition will be invited from the industry in form of a case. The participants will have to submit their reports in advance and the short listed candidates will have to make a presentation before a jury of experts.
XLNC
XLRI's Nature Club takes you on a 'Hike through Life'. It redefines the responsibility of future managers towards the environment and the community. XLNC strives to encourage XLers to realize a unique harmony not only with the environment but also with their inner-self. With this focus, XLNC is committed to activities that help XLers develop sensitivity towards the environment, and aid in their self-development.
For Ensemble this year, XLNC plans to make you see both sides of the issue by organizing a turncoat debate. Play Socrates, where not only do you raise questions, but also search for answers. And maybe along the way we'll discover that there are seldom any right or wrong answers.
