XLRI-SPICMACAY to help School Students Showcase their Talents

XLRI Jamshedpur has always tried to create an environment, which would help our youth appreciate our heritage in the right spirit. In the same direction, the XLRI chapter of SPIC MACAY (The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) is organizing Kriti, a programme to provide the school students an opportunity to exhibit their talents in the field of Indian Classical Music and Dance. The event is scheduled for January 25, 2003 at the XLRI Campus.

SPICMACAY is a non profit, voluntary, apolitical and participatory youth movement, dedicated to enriching education, by presenting a holistic vision of Indian culture, its priceless heritage of classical, folk and community traditions. Since its inception, at least two generations have participated in the movement, either deeply or peripherally.

Spic Macay's latest episode in its series of presentations is KRITI. KRITI is a unique initiative of the XLRI sub-chapter of SPIC MACAY, which focuses on promotion of cultural arts amongst young Indians still in school. Held in January each year, this event was initiated in the year 2000. It features students from prestigious schools of Jamshedpur, showcasing their immense talent in the field of Indian Classical Music and Dance.

Students from the best schools in the city Church School Beldih, Loyola School, Kerala Samajam Model School, Narbheram Hansraj English school, Jamshedpur public school, Hill Top school, Gulmohur School, Sacred Hearts School et al. will be participating in the event.

The programme will feature events in the categories of Classical singing (Solo, Duet or Group), Classical dance (Solo or Group), Instrumental, and Painting Gallery.

This event organized by the XLRI chapter of SPICMACAY is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from the student community of Jamshedpur and hopes to leave the city with indelible imprints of Indian culture and heritage.

SPICMACAY' has a network of 150 units in India and 30 chapters abroad, and they regularly organize programmes showcasing the talents of artistes such as Ustad Bismillah Khan, Smt. Gangubhai Hangal, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Shri Habib Tanvir and many others. Another very popular and well-appreciated event has been Spicmacay's flagship event "Virasat" held by our sub chapter in October 2002. The overwhelming response from Jamshedpur residents clearly indicated the incline towards cultural arts and their promotion.
