Mr. Amitava Sain and Mr. Somick Goswami from PriceWaterhouseCoopers talked on the Implementation of ERP Systems and the issues involved with the underlying ERP Cycle: Develop Plan Procure Manufacture Fulfill Service Market Sell Develop. According to Mr. Goswami the expected Benefits of ERP included Increased Cash flows, increased customer service levels and increased capacity utilization. Mr. Goswami elucidated on PwC's association with major ERP brands like Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, its rich domain knowledge, implementation experience for major national and international clients.

Mr. Hemant Namjoshi from ICICI Infotech, Presales Head at ICICI Infotech Limited talked on ERP for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He started the presentation with a Market classification and the description of the key focus areas that ICICI Infotech is into. He also talked on the Enterprise in a state of continual transformation, on Addressing SME segment requirements, on the Hosted model where the Customer and the Provider have shared responsibilities and benefits.

Other distinguished speakers included Mr. Purnendra Kishore from SAP who talked on ERP II Systems and Mr. Aditya Biswas from TCS who talked on Integrated Solutions for Banking & Financial Sectors.

Besides the lectures, there were two inter b-school events: case study contest, and summer project contests. Contestants from the leading B-schools (IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore, ISB Hyderabad, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, NITIE Mumbai, NMIMS Mumbai, XIMB to name a few) came down to campus and gave presentations, which were assessed by a panel comprising of the faculty and people from the industry. The Winners were ISB Hyderabad and XLRI Jamshedpur for the Case Study Competition. NITIE and ISB Hyderabad bagged the honors for the Summer Project Competition.

The packed audience included, besides the students and faculty, delegates from the corporate world and also student delegates from some of India's top Business Schools. They went back enthralled and enriched in ERP know-how.

"This year's seminar has received an overwhelming response from the Industry. We have had speakers from companies ranging from World Class ERP Solutions Providers to the World's renowned ERP Implementation Specialists. The seminar was a grand success, and I hope that this seminar would go a long way in further strengthening the Industry interface of XLRI, particularly in the IT industry," says Tarun Pardal, Secretary of SOCRATES.

NITS was an endeavor demanding excellent coordination, industry contacts and execution and SOCRATES lived up to its mark with the culmination of its efforts into a successful, enlightening experience.
