Low-cost carrier AirAsia would start a daily flight from Kolkata to Bangkok from Dec 1 to boost trade and tourism between India and Thailand.

"We are launching daily flights between Kolkata and Bangkok from December to boost trade and commerce, tourism and Buddhist pilgrimage between the two countries," Tassapon Bijleveld, chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia, told reporters here Wednesday.

The introductory price of the tickets would be Rs.2,500 for one-way. The airline launched a Delhi-Bangkok flight Tuesday. It would be available four days a week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The number of tourists who visited Bangkok last year would be around 100,000.

The company plans to make the flight service from the city double daily after six-eight months, he said.

AirAsia also plans to connect Phuket with Kolkata and Mumbai next year.

"Depending on the demand we are planning to introduce flights between Kolkata and Phuket and Mumbai and Phuket from third or fourth quarter of 2011 or first quarter of 2012," Bijleveld said.
