Global BPO majors: Unlike the IT services industry, the BPO sector has witnessed the entry of global BPO majors (such as Convergys, Teletech among others) in its initial stages. These companies are either focused BPO providers or have been spin-offs of large global corporates. Some of these providers have adopted the joint venture route to set up their presence in the country such as Sitel Corporation, which has set up a joint venture with the Tata Group and Stream with TracMail. However, other global BPO providers such as Convergys and Sykes have set up 100% subsidiaries in the country. These companies primarily undertake work that has been offshored by their parent company.

Broad based global services companies: Globally, in the last few years, a number of broad based service providers have entered the BPO sector. These include consulting firms such as PwC and Accenture; and IT services companies such as EDS and ACS. The primary reason for these players to enter the BPO space has been the leveraging of existing client relationships to provide bundled services and the high growth opportunities in the area.
