But what’s the final verdict on BT versus IT? Well, it is this writer’s (read humble!) opinion that while Indian BT is set for an upturn, the magnitude of the gains are highly dependent on whole-hearted government support (especially in the areas of seed funding, national BT strategy, regulatory reforms and a strong IPR regime) and greater public acceptance of agri-biotechnology (GM seeds). In the absence of the above, Indian BT is unlikely to achieve the dizzy heights of Indian IT.
