What does Women Reservation Bill mean?
As Wikipedia explains it, Women's Reservation Bill is a pending bill in India which proposes to provide thirty three per cent of all seats in the Lower house of Parliament of India. The Upper House, Rajya Sabha, passed it on 9 Mar 2010.
Arguments in favor of the bill
Those who are in support of this bill makes a point that if the bill becomes an act it would lead to gender equality in Parliament, resulting in the empowerment of women as a whole. They believe that women have been deprived of equality in India, thus increased political participation of women will help them fight the abuse, discrimination, and inequality they suffer from.
Opponents say
Various political parties are against the bill, as they fear that reserving 33.3 per cent seats for women, many of their male leaders may not get a chance to fight elections. The Bill is being opposed by politicians from the socially and economically backward classes. They argue that reservation would only help women of the elitist groups to gain seats, therefore causing further discrimination and under-representation to the poor and backward classes.

Why we need quota for each and every thing in India. Women are free to contest in election, so why to congest them in 33% (in this also quota with in quota). Whoever has the right talent should contest in election. Irrespective of gender bias or majority/minority discrimination, we need only good capable people to lead India.Right person has no need forever any type of quota and reservation.Every person should seen by a similar way these are essential.

I agree with you...we don't have to have reservation for everything...alike men, women too have the right to contest elections, but will u be able to explain that even though women have equal rights n opportunities (as you say) y do we still have just 59 female MPs in our Lok Sabha out of 543 members...which means for against every one female MP there are more than 8 male MPs
...I hope it isn't equality in any sense....
IS IT?????
I think resevation should not the only criteria for elections apart from quotas it is very important that right candidates contest the election. there should be certain mandatory criterias like the education ,social work done by him or her in thier past lives and how popular or how much liking the public has for them..there should not be resevation at all niether for the men nor for the women..this will certainly help in producing right persons for the election.
Women Reservation is good for Indian women but it would be great if it has more powers like social value like men, right to be called as head of the family, women soldiers of Indian Army can go on front.
As it only contains reservation in panchayat and municipal election, will not work to reform social condition of women.
Madam going to front of boarder is not a chield'play so first you join army and than you realise what is army
