Practical Training at IGTC: A Small Step to a Huge Beginning!

Page - 1

The beginning of the year 2007 saw 38 promising young minds take a small step in the corporate arena - the start of a journey! The IGTC students of the 2006-2008 batch started their first phase of practical training in January, 2007. As a part of the 18-month
program at the Indo-German Training Centre, all students undergo 6 months of practical training, spread across three phases of January-February, June-July and November-December respectively with leading Indo-German companies. Apart from giving the students valuable experience of working in real-life business scenarios, the practical training phases also enable the students to apply classroom learning to the real world. Companies gain from the fresh insights that the students bring in to the real life business problems.

This year, eighteen companies across various sectors such as manufacturing and engineering, aviation, retail, banking, consumer products, and telecomm accepted IGTC students as trainees. Companies participating in the training process for the first time included BASF India Ltd., Bharat Forge Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Jet Airways (India) Ltd., LANXESS India Pvt. Ltd., Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd., and T-Systems Ltd. The founder companies Siemens, Bayer and Bosch reinstated their support and belief in IGTC by being the largest trainers.

Niswarth Kochar worked on two projects for LANXESS India Pvt. Ltd., to map the Bio-Diesel market in India in order to check the market potential for the bio-diesel stabilizer; and to study the Mosquito Repellent market in India in order to analyze the opportunities for the active ingredient for topical repellents. Both the projects involved assessment of the government's role, and gave him an opportunity to interact with various officials from different organizations such as IOCL, HPCL and BPCL, the Chattisgarh Bio-Diesel Authority (CBDA), the Maharashtra FDA, Central Drug & Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), etc.

At T-Systems Ltd., Madhuri and Kunal worked with the Business Organization Team to build competitor profiles with detailed research on their service offerings in the BFSI, Automotive, Telecommunication, Manufacturing and Healthcare verticals. They were also involved in Business Functionality Testing for a new software tool being developed in-house for the Sales and Marketing team.
