Placement 2003

Placements 2003 at Management Developent Institute, Gurgaon

Placements 2003 at the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon saw some famous corporates descend on this picturesque campus for recruitment. The most interesting trend seen at the completion of the placement process was the revival of the financial sector, with over 27.64 per cent of students joining either financial institutions or the financial services industry.

Participating in the campus recruitment process were 80 firms, of which 50 managed to go away with candidates. The most distinctive feature of the placement process at MDI, however, was the presence of a multiplicity of the sectors. The strong industry interaction and the various students' initiatives have indeed been the key contributors. Of the 128 students, 29.2 per cent opted for jobs in the durables, automobiles and the core sectors. Companies that recruited in this sector include Whirlpool, Samsung, Philips, Usha International, Maruti, DSCL, Hero Honda, L&T, TVS Electronics, Asian Paints, Eicher group and Eveready.

Students evinced a key interest in financial institutions like CRISIL, IFCI, Power Trading Corporation and Power Finance Corporation. Corporate Finance jobs were offered by majors like Nestle, Hero Honda and DSCL while insurance companies like ICICI Prudential and Iffco-Tokio attracted their fair share of students.

FMCG, media and advertising picked up 17.8 per cent of the students. The major FMCG firms that recruited include Agrotech Foods, Reckitt Benckiser, Marico and Nestle. The India Today Group, ABP and FCB Ulka represented the media sector.

The real major surprise this year was that the technology sector, the front runner in the last year's placements, recruited only 17 per cent of the students this year. The HCL Group, TCS, Tata Elxsi, Quark and Computer Sciences Corporation were the major IT recruiters. The pharmaceutical sector was represented by India's leading players, Dr. Reddy's and Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited amongst others.

Recruiters like ACS and DHL were among the firms that looked for candidates in operations related and supply chain management jobs while Grow Talent, India's first talent management company and NDPL recruited candidates in the HR area. Firms like Kotak Mahindra and Godfrey Philips recruited from the campus for the first time.
