Indian Summer: News from IIMA Summer Recruitment 2003 at IIMA underscored the importance that the campus holds on the schedule of international recruiters. For quite some time now, the Institute has had the best recruitment in Finance amongst all B-schools in the country, in addition to having the best overseas placement record. Summers 2003 served to strengthen that perception. A total of 80 companies visited IIMA for summers to recruit 258 students in the first year batch. Amongst the most prominent ones were Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, UBS Warburg, Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers, HSBC, JP Morgan and IFC (a World Bank arm). The last two were visiting campus again after a gap of one and two years respectively. As a sign of better times to come, the New York offices of Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch also hired this year, over and above the traditional numbers that were picked for their Asia Pacific and London offices. A total of 36 acceptances from 59 offers on Day Zero, with 11 of those acceptances accruing to Goldman Sachs alone, was the high point of a remarkable recruitment season. To highlight the significance of this figure, it might be noted that a single dorm (Dorm 9) in IIMA had as many acceptances on Day Zero as the total number of I-banking internships in any other B-school in the country!
