Summer Placements 2004: IIM Kozhikode

Summer placements at IIM Kozhikode this year have been a resounding success with this year's placement process (both finals and summers) attracting 41 first-time recruiters including Accenture, NKF Singapore, Microsoft Corporation, AGS Morgan Stanley, IBM, Digital, Infosys, Wipro, ICI Ltd. and CavinKare - a powerful confirmation of IIMK's growing stature in industry and it's emergence as a leading Indian business school. Regular recruiters like GE Capital, ICICI Bank, ABN AMRO, Asian Paints, Godrej and the Aditya Birla Group also returned to campus to draw from the IIMK talent pool.

For the first time the summer placement process has been conducted on IIMK's sprawling new campus spread over 2 hills - 98 acres of lush forestland in the scenic Wayanad forest area of Kerala.

A significant development has been the doubling of IIMK's batch strength from 60 to 123 students. The current first year batch profile has changed from earlier batches having an average of 34 months of prior work experience, to a younger batch with an average 13 months of prior work experience - an attractive mix of freshers and students with industry experience. The Class of 2005 has an exciting variety of students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds including engineers, commerce and economics graduates, chartered accountants, a Navy submarine Commander, a fashion designer and an architect. Following the trend, there are a number of software engineers and also people with prior work experience in a gamut of organisations ranging from AT Kearney and PwC to Deloitte (Dubai) and the World Bank.

53 companies participated in the summer placement process at IIMK making a total of 124 offers.

International offers: 2 students received international summer internship offers from the National Kidney Foundation of Singapore, a leading non-profit organisation that recruits summer interns from international business schools including Harvard, Wharton, LBS and the IIMs.

Highest number of offers: Wipro Group (9 offers) followed by GE Capital (8) and ICICI Bank, Bharti and BPCL (5 each). Most of the offers (29) came from the FMCG/Marketing sector.

The sector-wise details of the offers are: -

Banking and financial services
(6 companies - 21 offers)
GE Capital (8), ICICI Bank (5), UTI Bank (3), IDBI (2), State Bank of India (2), ABN AMRO (1).
