Placement 2007

 NITIE Mumbai

NITIE Students Get Unconventional, Beat High Salaries to Pick Profiles of Their Choice
PGDIM Program

"Restlessness and discontent are the first necessities of progress."

- Thomas A. Edison

Millionaires in mid-20s, industry bullish on management graduates, quality education evolving over a period of time, are some of the issues that have dominated placement reports over the last few years. While many people wonder what makes news out of them year on year, it is NITIE's management batch's soaring ambitions and willingness to sail unknown waters this year around. The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore, they attempt the impossible - and achieve it, generation after generation. The Management Batch of 2007 stands testimony to this fact as they were lapped up with discerning precision by companies in two days of campus placements.

As many as 77 companies came down to campus for placements and 45 companies ended up attracting students with their profiles and job offers. The number of job offers made was 2.30 per acceptance. The highest international offer was made by Olam International worth $ 85,000. The highest domestic salary offered was approximately Rs. 12 Lakhs. More than 10% of the batch joined the millionaire club. ICICI Bank (20), Cognizant Technology Solutions (20), ICICI Prudential (17), Kotak Mahindra (16), IBM (11) were among the top recruiters.

The laterals process, designed for students with prior work experience, had companies of the likes of IBM, Intel, Computer Sciences Corp., SAP Consulting, Tata Strategic Management Group, Atos Origin, Tholons, Accenture Consulting, Eicher Consulting, SUN Microsystems, Ernst & Young, Cognizant Technology Solutions offering premier job profiles to students of their choice. The profiles ranged from strategy / general management to consulting. 20 percentage of the batch preferred consultancy over other sectors indicative of a trend away from the conventional "industry". Cognizant lead the bandwagon followed by SAP and IBM.

NITIE's long-standing ally FMCG wasn't to be left behind. It was reinforced by the participation of majors like HLL, P&G, ITC, Nestle, Britannia, Cadburys, Asian Paints, Marico, Colgate Palmolive and pharma majors like Glenmark, GSK and JnJ. 15 percentage of the batch embraced FMCG and the profiles offered ranged from sales, marketing, commercial and various supply chain functions. HLL made 5 offers across marketing, commercial and IT division followed by P&G and Nestle.

The Banking, Financial Services and Insurance sector ranked among students' top preferences with 35% accepted offers across companies in this sector. This sector also witnessed a phenomenal increase in the number of jobs and the nature of roles being offered as compared to the last year. Besides top banks like Citibank, Standard Chartered, ICICI and HDFC, this year saw the likes of equity research firms like Irevna also featuring in the students' favored destinations.
