Final Placements Begin at IIM Calcutta as Coveted Companies Woo Students on Day 0

The Final Placement Process for this year's batch of IIM Calcutta has generated an overwhelming response from the corporate czars of the Industry - from both India and abroad - with close to 100 students already placed in the firms of their choice after the
much coveted Day Zero of the much placement process.

The Class of 2008 at IIM-C will also be the first one to send students from campus to companies such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Arthur D. Little. In fact, IIM-C is the only IIM across the country to see students joining Morgan Stanley for their London office. The process this year also saw students choosing strategic consulting roles in a big way with major consultancies like BCG, Bain, McKinsey, AT Kearney and Arthur D. Little hiring over 40 candidates at the end of the first day of placements.

The salaries have shot up significantly this time with multiple offers crossing the magic Rs. 1 Crore mark. The highest offer so far on campus has been Rs. 1.36 Crore made by a leading international investment bank. The recruitment coordinators are expecting a 18-22% hike over last years' salary figures.

There has also been a tremendous interest shown by investment banks with students from the outgoing batch receiving offers from top notch firms like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan and ING, Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse.

The recruitment process has seen a great jump in the number of offers made to students by leading corporates with 153 offers being made in the lateral placements. This coupled with almost 90 pre-placement offers (PPOs) has meant that over 240 offers having been made to the 290 students well before the final placement process began.

The PPOs bagged by students as a result of their impressive performance during summer internships are a testimony to the academic rigor and the corporate readiness of the IIM Calcutta students.

The Slot 0 placement day here has seen a huge turnout from companies and to quote the chairperson of the Placement Committee at IIM Calcutta, Prof. S. D. Moitra, "The long-term relationship that we have nurtured with companies has meant that recruitment at IIM-C has always been exceptional."
