Environment Management for the Corporate
Sector: New Directions

Program Director: Prof. Bhaskar Chakrabarti
March 25-26, 2006
Tata Hall, IIM Calcutta
Program Fees: Rs. 10,000 INR

Program Content: There is now a major shift in the interactions between corporations and the natural environment. Environment was mostly a legal responsibility for corporate houses until this decade; but businesses currently look at environmental issues as a source of competitive advantage and as a part of standard business practice. Top management has begun to recognize the importance of environment to the corporations’ survival and growth.
Government regulators and environmental groups are increasingly trying to work with the corporate sector to solve environmental problems. This two-day workshop will equip managers with tools and concepts to understand the implications of domestic and international environmental policies, and will help them to integrate environmental considerations with business performance. Topics to be covered include the current issues in the international debate of sustainability, standardization of environmental policies, environmental issues in business and trade, green corporate strategies, collaborations between firms, government, and environmental groups, measurement of environmental performance, and ISO 14000.
