Pre-event Press-release Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode is organizing its annual management festival, BACKWATERS, in the fourth week of January 2005 (January 29-30). The brightest young minds from the top B-Schools and colleges across India converge at IIMK for a full weekend to compete, to excel, to learn and to have fun during Backwaters. Hosted at IIMK's sprawling campus, it is an opportunity for the best and the brightest to come together and test their abilities in a series of management games, simulations, paper presentations and other competitions. CoolAvenues.com is the online media partner for the event. IDEA Cellular Limited is the communication partner for the event. IIMK Alumni Meet is also being held at IIM campus on the same weekend as Backwaters. Thus the participation at Backwaters would be by B-school students and IIMK alumnus from different corporates worldwide. 'Backwaters' is an annual two-day festival with management-related events. The main events include a business quiz, games that test the skills of the participants in various management disciplines and a paper presentation competition covering the gamut of management areas viz. finance, marketing, strategy and systems. The online games, which are currently open for participation, are seeing huge participation from students from premier B-schools across the country. The live strategy case competition, in association with Mahindra British Telecom, will challenge the business acumen of management students from all over the country in their. The case, which relates the real and current problems being faced by the telecom industry, is likely to receive huge participation because of its unique feature of giving out more practical facets of a real-life situation than any book might. There are also a number of informal events that will keep the participants busy during the course of Backwaters. Backwaters'05, in association with SPICMACAY, is also organizing a concert by Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, a Grammy award winner, who has revolutionized the Indian Classical Music with his innovation and talent.

The Online Games are a unique set of events, involving quizzes, treasure hunts on the Internet, finance quizzes, marketing quizzes and other innovative events that can be played over the Internet. This year the online games are being partnered by CoolAvenues.com. Since this is the only avenue for students who are unable to travel to the IIMK campus for the main event, the online games usually receive tremendous enthusiasm and response from the B-school community.
