IIM Ahmedabad - Amaethon 2005
IIMA ABC's Maiden B-school Meet
January 29-30, 2005

Amaethon 2005: Another feather in IIMA's cap, it was a beginning par excellence. The first of its kind, this event was organized with a vision to further publicize IIMA's focus on Agri-business. The event was aimed at being an interface between Industry, Academia and the student community. With more than 100 teams participating from 19 B-schools across the nation, the event was a roaring success.

The event comprised of five competitions. With the objective of fulfilling up-scaling grassroots innovations and instances of traditional knowledge, and in association with National Innovation Foundation, the business plan contest "Saakar" was held. This gave students an opportunity to apply concepts from the classroom towards converting innovations and traditional knowledge at grassroots into practical business propositions. This contest was judged by Prof. Vasant Gandhi, the head of CMA, IIMA and Mr. Sunil Parekh, advisor to the Asian Development Bank, Manila.

"Shodh", the Paper Presentation contest was judged by Prof. Vinod Ahuja, Chair, PGP-ABM, IIMA. The topics for the paper presentation reflected the current and upcoming trends in the Agri-business sector.

"Agrigate", the case contest was based on the emerging focus on retail management across India. Prof. Sunil Maheshwari, Organizational behavior area and Prof. Vinod Ahuja, Chair, PGP-ABM, IIMA, were judges for this event.

IIMA has a long-standing relationship with the oldest and best known cooperative in India, AMUL. In collaboration with AMUL, a Marketing Plan Contest was organized. The products used for the contest await national rollout in the near future. The experience of seeing one's suggested marketing plan being put to use is exhilarating to say the least. Mr. Nimit Doshi, Executive, Marketing, Mr. Pavan Kumar, Marketing Manager Amul and Prof. Samar Dutta, IIMA, were judges for this contest. The participants got to work on live projects and were given further insights into reality during the tough and grueling question-answer sessions with the judges.
