XLRI Confers Azim Premji with Industrial Peace Award

Previous

During his interaction with the students earlier in the evening, Premji talked at length about the Indian IT scenario. He said, "The training that we impart should be based on a holistic employee development program. Not training employees fearing poaching is not correct. The high attrition in BPO is also partly due to the graveyard shifts. It can be reduced to an extent if we penetrate the European market, where the time difference is less compared to USA."

Talking about the need of the hour in Business Schools, Mr. Premji said, "Business world is one of competition. You need both smartness & hard work to succeed there. 55-hour work-weeks are common there. If B-schools can build up the tempo in such a way that students spend a minimum 55 hours a week in academics and other activities, the MBAs would be better equipped to take up the stress. The networking abilities and intuitive decision-making process of MBAs should be developed in the B-schools. Students should be graded on their intuitive judgments."

Talking on the Corporate Social Responsibility policies of Wipro, Premji said that it was not a money-based policy. "We are more focused on value addition to the society. We are working to bring forth real life learning to schools so that the inquisitiveness of students will sustain throughout their life."

Concluded.
