49th Annual Convocation Held at XLRI Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, April 3, 2005: The 49th Annual Convocation for the XLRI batch of 2005 was held on April 3, 2005 in the Tata Auditorium in XLRI, Jamshedpur. The convocation was presided over by the chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr. B. Muthuraman. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Senior Advisor to the Director General of UNIDO, United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

The event was marked by tradition and it highlighted the successful completion of the various management programmes offered by the XLRI batch of 2005. One fellow student of XLRI and three fellows in Human Resource Development (Award of XLRI, Jamshedpur and the Academy of HRD, Ahmedabad) were conferred fellowships. Sixty-one students in PMIR, one hundred and sixteen students in BM, twenty-one in Exec-PGP (India) and thirty-seven in Exec-PGP (Dubai) were conferred diplomas in management.

The top performers in the different management fields were presented with awards and Medals. The medals given were: J. M. Kumarappa Medal to Ms. Gyan Anjan Kaur for being the top scorer in the PMIR course, ICI Medal to Mr. Mahesh Pakalpati for being the top scorer in the BM course, XLRI Medal (Exec-PGP, India) to Ms. Natasha Gupta and XLRI Medal (Exec-PGP, Dubai) to Mr. Asif Shafi. Other medals presented were Chev. John P. D'Costa KSG Medal (Managerial Ethics), M. Parineet Reddy Memorial Medal (in Industrial Relations), MAXI Medal (Marketing), NIPM Medal (Personnel Management), Prof. Mike Vanjour Memorial Medal (Systems Area), Pyda's Award of Excellence (Strategic Management), Ram Awtar Chachra Memorial Medal and Saphhire Medal (Organizational Behaviour Area).

The Director of XLRI, Fr. N. Casimir Raj presented the annual report for the academic year 2004-2005. He said that the year began with him taking over from Fr. P. D. Thomas. The Director informed the audience about the improvements made in the campus and IT infrastructure, increase in faculty strength, introduction of new management courses and programmes, such as the satellite programmes, the Dubai Exec-PGP programmes, the active role played by the national and international alumni charters and the successful placements of students.
