IIM Calcutta Hosting Annual International Business Festival 'Intaglio'
Highlights of Intaglio Day 2

Intaglio Day 2 was a very busy and challenging one here at IIMC with 6 events completing the final round and 4 events getting through with their qualifiers. This not only kept participants totally engrossed and occupied but also gave a magnetic buzz to the campus to which every one was drawn. It was simply not possible to stay out of action since the events and activities were spread all over the campus.

Bangalored - Business Process Outsourcing Game

"BANGALORED!!!" was the mantra of many a firm abroad seeking to optimize its performance by inducing efficiency through outsourcing of non-core tasks. The IT capital of India took a brief shift to the IIM Calcutta campus on the 6th of January as a part of Intaglio 06-07. Bangalored is Intaglio's Business Process Outsourcing Game that tests the participants' skills in an environment where work is outsourced across geographic locations. It aims to test skills at project management, outsourcing strategies, sales, business development and the choice(s) of functional and technological verticals to conceptualize a successful technology services firm.

Over three hundred participants took part in the preliminary round where the teams profit as calculated based on four decision points - the picking of country, technology used, domain of choice and the projects undertaken, with certain constraints applicable. Implicit choices had to be made based on financing available, labour rates and foreign exchange rates amongst a host of other factors prevalent for that combination of decision points. The round tested a combination of analytical skills, understanding of the BPO scenario and project management.

The second round began from where the elimination round ended. Teams had to come up with a complete plan for expansion based on their choices in the preliminary round, the ultimate goal being to maximize profitability, with new decisions to be taken about project bidding, strategizing to counter the unseen moves of the competitors and win the maximum number of profitable projects.
