Upon the conclusion of his presentation, there followed a question-answer session which proved to be a damper on the proceedings due to the lack of interaction. Finally, one BIMite, gathering courage, raised a question which was immediately greeted with furious applause from the audience.

Then followed an informative speech by Mr. N. Gokulram, the Principal Secretary of Finance for the Karnataka Government. It was a bit long drawn and soon became boring. During this speech, segments of the audience were in a stupor due to an overload of information. This opportunity was utilized by Adyan Prabhakaran of PGP 2 to mark the attendance of the BIMites present. A tea-break followed.

The former president of Sterlite Industries, Mr. Thiruppathi, came on stage next. He advocated a holistic approach to CSR and also spoke about Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility. He said that the methods adopted like conservation of raw materials, conservation of energy and water conservation were also ways in which corporates could be socially responsible. The other CSR activities in which they were actively involved were focussed on ‘education and empowerment of the poor with emphasis on women empowerment’. It was a short, crisp and enthralling speech which ended with the question, ‘What is your contribution?’

Ms. Lily Paul, a representative of the Ashoka Foundation, who was present on behalf of Ms. Nomito Kamdar, spoke about the activities of the Ashoka Foundation. She addressed the topic of Social Entrepreneurship and said that every one of the social entrepreneurs identified by Ashoka as worthy of aid were change makers in their own right. She said that they created systematic solutions to the problems all over the world. The reach of Ashoka was commendable with a sizeable presence in 48 countries around the globe. Ashoka Foundation followed the Social Venture Capital approach and encouraged group entrepreneurship. Their ultimate aim, according to Ms. Paul, was bridging business and society and supporting collaboration to facilitate value creation for all.
