The Institute of Nanotechnology founded in 1997 is based in Scotland and was one of the world's first nanotechnology information providers and is now a world leader. The Institute of Nanotechnology is working closely with governments, universities, researchers and companies worldwide on micro and nanotechnology.

There are several countries where you can pursue studies in nanotechnology. Overseas, government funding for research has led to the blooming of nanotechnology institutes. Stanford University boasts of professors like Eric Drexler, one of the pioneers of nanotechnology. In Australia, at Curtin University of Technology, one could graduate in science with a major in nanotechnology. One could also opt for a doctorate at Washington State University, US or at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, several short-term courses are available around the year on various topics dealing with nanotechnology.

Apart from these courses, specialized programs catering to different needs are also available: -

  • Masters in Nanotechnology Enterprise - This program will be launched in 2004; it aims to bring together outstanding individuals from all over the world who intend to pursue a career at the interface of technology and business. This program is available at Cambridge.

  • Masters in Nanotechnology and Micro fabrication - This new masters course at the University of Bangor, UK, aims to provide graduates with knowledge and skills in the new field of nanotechnology and Micro fabrication.

  • Professional Master's of Nanoscale Physics- Rice University, US offers an interdisciplinary Master's degree in Nanoscale Physics that combines scientific study with education in business and policy.

  • MSc/PhD in Biomedical Nanotechnology- The Institute for Nanoscale Science & Technology at the University of Newcastle, UK, is offering MSc and PhD studentships to follow a course of study in Biomedical Nanotechnology.
