Annual Brand Management Festival at MICA
November 19-21, 2004

MICANVAS is the Annual Brand Management Festival of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) in which MICAns interact with industry stalwarts and also meet students from top business schools in the country and abroad to share their learning and talents. In the fourth MICANVAS this year, top professionals from different spheres and over 150 students from 23 top Business schools in the country and abroad participated.

The first event of MICANVAS was a Panel Discussion called 'Blades of Glass' by eminent industry persons who revealed the secret behind some of the recent successful campaigns. The panelists were Ms. Sharda Agarwal, Head Marketing, Coca-Cola, Dr. Milan Agnihotri, Head, Interface (Advertising and marketing consultancy), Mr. Sushil Handa, CEO, Clarins Life Sciences, Mr. Sumit Roy, Head, Univ brands and Professor Atul Tandan, Director, MICA. 'Competing for Choice - Developing Winning Brand Choices' was the topic of the discussion. This topic was inspired by a book of the same name, authored by Lars Finskud.

The next event was 'Ad-dict' in which 40 teams participated. The participating students were told to make an advertisement collage on a given topic using other ads. The contest was won by the team from IMC, Delhi. The second prize went to MICA.

The first event post-lunch was 'Lexicon', a Management Crossword game which was followed by a Paper Presentation Contest, 'Insight oracle', sponsored by Radio Mirchi, that witnessed participation from more than 30 institutes. The topic of the contest was 'Media Fragmentation and Use of Local Broadcast Media for Brand Building'. The winners of the contest were the students from IIM, Ahmedabad (cash prize of Rs.25,000). The second and third prize of Rs. 15,000/- and Rs.10,000/- went to IIM, Ahmedabad and MICA respectively. The final round of the contest was judged by Mr. Sharath Chandra, Senior Vice-President, Marketing & Brand Engagement, Radio Mirchi and Mr. Rajendra Grewal, Head of Corporate Marketing Communications Ltd., a Marketing & Communications consultancy.

The other highlight of the day was a Brand Communication Workshop by Mr. Sumit Roy of Univ brands, which was attended by a large number of students. Various aspects of branding and the reasons behind a successful brand were discussed in depth in the workshop through interesting exercises. The preliminary round of 'Marketricks', a simulation game also took place in the evening, which was followed by MICAPERS, the informal events like Antakshari and Volleyball.
