Post Event Press-release From improving processes to transforming entire organizations is an immense leap, and Mr. Seshadri Shankar, IBM BTO took the participants through each of the steps that an organization must take in order to change its fortunes. Six Sigma is now an integral part of this 'Transformational Leap' for BPOs, from cost-play business models to delivering true business value to their partners. This paradigm shift, he said, is brought about by using Quality and Transformation as differentiators in a crowded ITES environment. According to him, customers 'may come for cost, but stay for quality'. For IBM BTO, he said, a key learning is that for Six Sigma to be truly successful, the resolve has to be top-driven, but the engagement has to be bottom-up, and leader buy-in is essential. The last presentation, by Mr. Arvinder Kohli, NRB Bearings, took the participants to the roots, the very core of Six Sigma: rigorous technical and statistical analysis, a drill-down approach, and intense emphasis on use of the logic and cause and effect relationships. He presented two case studies that brought home the point that the Six Sigma analytical approach can be quantitative or qualitative, and depending on the process, each approach is valid and effective. Over 150 corporate participants representing the best Indian companies, and students from some of the leading B-schools attended the seminar. About SPJIMR S. P.
