Post-event Press-release Dr. R. H. Patil, Chairman, Clearing Corporation of India Ltd talked at length about the role of the central counter party(CCP) in a trading exchange. The talk covered points like the need for a CCP, inception and role of Clearing corporation of India Ltd., real time exposure management and "novation" among others. He talked about how the real time techniques used in India are superior to the end-of-day tallying techniques used in the U.S. He also talked about how a CCP plays the role of an intermediary between trading and settlement and intervenes in legal protection, risk management and cross-border issues. He stressed on the importance of technology as a driver for CCP. The last presentation of the day was by Mr. Suyash Choudhary, Fund Manager, Standard Chartered Mutual Fund. He talked about the debt markets in India and the existing different perspectives of market risk. His talk dwelled upon the demand factors in the bond market like economic fundamentals, market psychology and market valuations. He also talked about how investors can manage market risk effectively through appropriate scheme selection. Role and responsibilities of an investment manager, various factors that determine the market risk of corporate bonds, liquidity risk management and operational risk control systems in Standard Chartered were some of the other topics that were discussed. The event also saw the January issue of Spandan being released by Dr. R. H. Patil. Spandan, the official management journal of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, is published and edited by the students of IIMK, and has active participation of students and faculty across all B-schools and stalwarts from the industry. Spandan is a platform to exchange ideas and provoke discussions on current issues and future trends in the industry. The first day of the event was attended by faculty and students of IIMK and industry delegates and was a great success. Speakers lined up for the second day include Mr. Sundar Vishwanathan, CFO, CSC, Ms. Lalitha Ravindran, Kanbay India and Dr. D. V. S. Sastry, Director General (R&D), IRDA. Contributed by - |
