Post-event Press-release The first speaker on the second day of the event was Mr. Sundar Vishwanathan, CFO, CSC. His talk centered on a CFO's perception of balancing risk in an organization. He talked about the finance function in relation to globalization, focus on core competencies, cost management and information technology. He stressed the importance of financial structuring and establishing new reporting mechanisms. He concluded by emphasizing that in the near future the roles of CFO and COO are going to converge. Ms. Lalitha Ravindran, Insurance Specialist, Kanbay India talked about how in the past insurance firms focused on business structure and sales volume, was characterized by a few delivery channels and the important role of the intermediary with the customer. According to her, the insurance firm of the future would focus on the lifetime value of the consumer, is not driven by single transactions, would have multiple delivery channels and would maximize its core competency. She also dwelled upon the changing role of the underwriter and how insurance analytics can help in better underwriting. She talked about Risk factor rating and generalized linear modeling in relation with insurance analytics. She also talked about insurance scoring and the interesting relation between credit scores and the claim payouts. She ended her presentation by mentioning the increasing role of business intelligence tools in the insurance industry. Dr. D. V. S. Sastry, Director General (R&D), IRDA focused on how regulators have the onerous responsibility of putting in place guidelines that are often criticized but nevertheless important to shape the industry in the future. His talk touched upon events that would have had significant influence in shaping policies in risk management. The event concluded with a thank you speech by Yash Seghal, who was the student coordinator of Arthanomics.
