"Imran Khan came across as astute, articulate and exceedingly well informed on political and economic matters. He was of the opinion that opening up of India’s economy in the early 1990s, and the pre-eminence of the judiciary were the primary reasons for India’s recent rapid growth," said Nag, a second-year student of IIM Calcutta who is also the head of the IIM Calcutta’s Entrepreneurship Cell. Asked about his comments on the present state of Pakistani cricket, Imran Khan blamed the ad hoc handling of the Pakistani domestic cricket for the predicament.

The corporate-backed LUMS boasts of a well-laid out campus, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, well-equipped hostels, world-class faculty and a vibrant student community. The rigorous academic curriculum and pedagogy make LUMS, Pakistan’s numero uno Business School, comparable to the leading business schools in India.

In the course of the visit, the Indian students attended a discussion on ‘Branding Pakistan’. While industry experts and respected academicians expressed their views, the student too contributed constructively. The famed ‘Food Street’ and ‘Anarkali’ of Lahore were extensively explored and patronised. None of the important historical monuments were given a miss, though most were reminiscent of the ones back home in India! "Lahore is quite similar to Delhi. In fact if you ignore the signboards (written in Urdu), you will think that you are in Delhi itself," commented Aman. "...but for the absence of wine shops and pubs," added Sachin wistfully. Both are second-year students of IIM Calcutta and are graduating in April 2005. Aman’s grandfather hailed from Lahore, and he had a moving experience when he visited the street where his ancestral house once stood.

Throughout the trip, the affection and acceptance in Pakistan made us feel much at home. We experienced firsthand the much-acclaimed Pakistani hospitality through invitations to dinners of delectable traditional Pakistani cuisine. The cultural similarity was apparent during the traditional wedding we witnessed as also in general notes we exchanged about festivals and celebrations. Even our apprehensions and aspirations about our futures were startlingly similar!
