It is important to recognize that this 86% percent eat, drink, drive, and are alive, not just a source of cheap labor. Mr. Mahajan cited an example of the concept of selling water - the mineral water bottle. This innovation came about in Mexico, bringing in a lot of revenue, and also supporting the tourism industry significantly.

Mr Mahajan said that now is a great time for developing nations like India and China, and that there are plenty of doors opening for them. The developed world cannot do without linking with remaining 86% of the population. Interestingly, ICICI Bank gets more revenue from US than it gets in India! Western Union has recognized the huge opportunity in India, and have done so much of groundwork about it that they know far more about India than many of us.

NRIs home from abroad create a demand for luxuries, which is met by the large number of 5-star hotels, and emerging airlines (Jet Airways). Mr. Mahajan stated that the developing world is more in touch with the problems they face and probably more capable of giving the right solution.
