Session Themes Finalized for IIFT NASSCOM National IT Symposium 2006
Scheduled for 21st August 2006 at IIFT Bhawan, New Delhi

"If we look at IT in totality and see how this integrates to the business model, then we will value IT as an enabler to Business Strategy... and thus, IT Matters!"

- Raymond Matura,
Technology Manager,
Strathmore University.

With annual revenue projection expected to cross US $ 77 billion by 2008 accounting for 7% of India's GDP and 30% of foreign exchange inflows, Indian Information Technology (IT) industry has built-up enviable brand equity in the global markets. It is loathed and awed by few, yet revered and cherished by others. In the IT-enabled Services (ITES), India emerged as the most preferred destination for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), a key driver of growth for the software industry and the services sector.

Notwithstanding this exalted status of an industry par excellence, there are several caveats: the Indian IT industry still relies heavily on the North American market which accounts for nearly 70% of our exports; given security breaches, amending the IT Act is a top priority; there is a huge untapped domestic market for ITeS/BPO; the huge attrition rate undermining efforts to retain talent; the raising cost threat. These apart, several challenges: the impediments in moving up the value chain from a mere outsourced partner to a strategic partner; the means by which IT can tap emerging sectors like the domestic small and medium businesses and facilitate e-governance; how to build a sustainable talent edge to remain competitive seems to defy buoyant projections.

Against this backdrop and accentuated by the fast changing global landscape, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) with support of NASSCOM deemed it fit to set a platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas between intellectuals from leading IT companies and B-school fraternity to converse on "Aiming Global Business: IT-ITeS Industry's New Priorities, New Realities".
