SPJIMR's Theatre Group Stages their Magnum Opus 'Kamala'

A seamless confluence of theater and management! Here is yet another illustration of the innovation in management education by the nation's premier business school, S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR). The Guild of Actors at SPJIMR (GASP) is a voluntary non-classroom initiative of the PGDBM students of SPJIMR under the aegis of the ADMAP program.
The inspiration behind forming a theatre group was to have a forum for people interested in theatre and dramatics and enrich each other with their insights and ideas. The participants of SPJIMR decided to work towards an annual production to give it a more meaningful essence.

SPJIMR is among the top-10 B-schools in the country, and considering the academic rigour and stress of management education, the very fact that B-school students have gone a step beyond regular academia under severe time constraints, and donned creative hats to conceptualize, visualize and recreate the magic of intense, thematic and social plays is by itself the main highlight of GASP. The uniqueness of the concept of 'GASP' stems from the fact that it is a production, which is completely handled by the participants of the institute. Right from brainstorming to select the script, auditioning to select the cast, script reading sessions to direction, lights, music, backstage, the onus of it all is on the students.

GASP was successfully unveiled in the year 2003, with the impressive performance of Girish Karnad's play 'Tughlaq'. Since then, each year GASP has grown and strengthened with phenomenal performances like Mahesh Dattani's 'The Final Solutions' in 2004 and Vijay Tendulkar's 'Silence, The court is in Session' in 2005. The nation's premier management school, SPJIMR's 'GASP' initiative is the only professional theater group across business schools apart from MICA, Ahmedabad.
