Mr. Apoorv Varma, CEEZAY Trade Mart, Mr. Rahul Goel, Sony Ericsson & Mr. Samik Dasgupta, Yes Bank, at IMI

The dais was then taken over by Mr. Goel, who urged the budding managers to focus on the fundamentals, and to respond to change in these exponential times. Citing the example of Axiom Telecom, he pointed out that the key component to successful marketing is to keep the customer needs in focus. Further on, he added that it is not just the 4 Ps that rule marketing, but also a fifth P - the Partner - which is essential for operational excellence.

The final speaker for the session was Mr. Dasgupta, who brought to fore the basic theories of product and process innovation. He asserted that customer feedback is of utmost priority in the improvement and evolution of an organization, and elucidated this with the help of two case studies.

Also worth mentioning was the informal, yet stimulating discussion between the dignitaries and the students, which concluded the first session of Srijan '08.

The post lunch session was just as good, if not better. It began with the students' presentation contest on the topic "Innovative Brand Building". The participants elaborated on the factors that go in to make a successful brand, using fine examples like that of Titan, Oral B, Vodafone, etc. One of them aptly mentioned the famous Steve Jobs quote: "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."
