Manufacturing Sector Becomes Biggest Gainer in Summer Placements at TISS, Mumbai

Summer Placements 2009 at Tata Institute of Social Sciences was an attestation yet again, of the strong brand equity that its flagship course in Human Resource Management enjoys in the industry. The season of despair that has painted a gloomy picture globally served only to
re-allign the recruiter basket at TISS.

The placements process this year was re-designed to handle more companies per day. As a result, the whole process could be wrapped up in few days with 100% of the students, who opted for Summers, getting placed. A total of 28 companies visited the campus as a part of 'Day 1' process and another 3 participated in 'Day 2'. Of the total of 65 first year students (1 student opted out) who participated in the process, only 4 went into Day 2.

Some comparisons with last year: -

Parameters Summer Placements
2008
Summer Placements
2009
  Students Placed   61   64
  Highest Stipend Offered   Rs. 50,000/month
  Excluding Perks

The biggest gainer in the Summer Placements this year was unequivocally the manufacturing sector. Record breaking number of offers were made by Cummins (India), Essar and RPG. Various sectors were, however, still well-represented. Consulting firms like Ernst & Young and Hewitt were in fray for the best HR talent in the country. FMCG sector was represented by biggies like HUL, Proctor & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive, ITC, Nestle, Cadbury, Asian Paints, Marico, Coca Cola & HCCBL, etc. Pharma sector had global giant Astra Zeneca to boast of.
