FMS, Delhi Holds 4-Day International Conference on "Human Capital Formation in the 21st Century"
The paper presented by Col. Harsha Kakkar, College of Defense Management, Hyderabad, addressed molding of human capital for Indian Defense Forces and emphasized the difference between other organisations and army in terms of human capital formation through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The inherent strength of the human capital molding in Indian Defense Forces has in fact contributed to the solid values of the Indian army, which in fact attracts people from diverse backgrounds.
Apart from the enlightening panel presentations, the delight attached to the proceedings of Day 2 of the conference was the Dhrupad Recital. Dhrupad is the most ancient style of Hindustani classical music that has survived until today in its original form. The Dhrupad tradition is a major heritage of Indian culture. Today there are only three major schools of Dhrupad in India, the Mishras of Bettiah, the Mallicks of Darbhanga and the Dagars. The Dagar family is the oldest, having kept this tradition alive for 19 generations .The recital was delivered by Sayeed Nafeesuddin Dagar and Sayeed Aneesuddin Dagar of Dagar family and it enthused the audience and gave a whiff of Indian culture and heritage to the International delegates. Day 3 The keynote address for Day 3, "The Global Service Economy: Advantage India", was delivered by Prof. Alan Shao, Associate Dean for International Programs, NC Ports Professor of Marketing and International Business, Belk College of Business, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA. In his address, Prof. Shao pointed out that supreme linguistic abilities, an educated and diligent workforce and cost advantage are the three main factors that would make India a key determinant of the Human Capital formation strategies that would be formulated in the developed economies in the near future. He further opined that the lead that India has at the moment in the above-mentioned core competencies gives it a clear edge over China, other South-East Asian and South American countries in areas like Business Process Outsourcing and Knowledge Process Outsourcing.
