Asha Kapoor, Head, Sudler and Hennessey, speaking about healthcare marketing, explained with the help of a hypothetical drug Mynestra how pharmaceutical companies are positioning their drugs to differentiate them from their competitors. She commented on the inadequacy of the AIDA formula in context of healthcare marketing and proposed an alternative model, which would be more pertinent to the context of the healthcare industry.

The next speaker, Alvin Saldanha, Sr. Creative Director and Vice President, McCann Erickson, Worldwide, brought the house down with his presentation based on the theme - "If advertisement is not sales promotion, then what on earth is it?" He had the audience literally rolling in the aisles as he explained as only he could have on how advertising informs, educates, persuades and manipulates.

Post Lunch Session

The post lunch session was oriented towards the better understanding of the importance of Human Resources. It started off with a speech by Mr. Saurabh Singh, Head HR, ICICI Bank. Mr. Singh was speaking on managing change at ICICI Bank. He explained how the recruiting pattern at ICICI has undergone a sea change and how his team is meeting the challenges of the recruitment process.

This was followed by a panel discussion on the "Need for Managing and Retaining Talent". The panel comprised of Ms. Ritu Anand, Head-HR of TCS; Mr. S. N. Suri, VP-HR and Corporate Communication, Mahanagar Gas Limited; Mr. P. Vijayan, VP-HR, Mahindra Gesco Limited; Mr. Milind Kulkarni, VP-HR, Siyaram Silk Mills and Ms. Anjali Saxena, Head-HR, IndusInd Bank.

Ms. Anand spoke about the changing needs of the employees and how TCS takes care of each of its 55,000 employees. Mr. Suri spoke about retention strategies like recognizing contribution of employees, freedom of operations, open door policy. etc. Mr. Milind Kulkarni explained the need for managing and retaining talent. He laid down strategies for identification of retainable talent.
