Samavesh 2005 Held at K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research Day 2: 3rd December 2005 First Session The second day belonged to Finance and Operations & Logistics management. The day started with a series of lectures on the various emerging trends in modern finance. The first speaker Mr. Vora, Partner, Deloitte Haskins, spoke on innovations and instruments in the market. He also spoke at length about the securities market. After that Mr. Venkatachary, Chairman, MCX, spoke about the recent developments in commodity markets and their impact on the rural economy. He then talked about the strategic alliances that MCX has formed. Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Value Investor, commented on the recent trends in Indian stock markets. He spoke about the need to anticipate change and prepare for it. He was very bullish about the Indian economy and spoke passionately about it. Mrs. Kala Pant, Banking Consultant, shared her experience about the changes occurring in the banking sector and the changing role of RBI. She also encouraged Indian banks to go global and target foreign markets. Mr. Sushil Muhnot, CEO, IDBI Capital Markets, talked about the developments in Debt Markets. He discussed on how the debt markets have grown and what the emerging future trends are.
