INVESTRIX 2004: Annual Finance Meet

With this enriching seminar, day one came to an end in anticipation of another day of enlightening experiences. 30th October, day two started with deliberation on the infrastructure financing by Mr. A. K. T. Chari, COO, IDFC. He enabled the audience to understand the kind of holistic views that have to be taken while taking the decision on infrastructure financing. He picked up the examples from our vicinity like the Pune Mumbai Express Highway Project and further elicited the topic with examples of the famous Golden Quadrilateral and some international instances to drive home the point of various macro and micro considerations.

In the later part of the day, the audience was enthralled by the king of mutual funds Mr. A. P. Kurian, Chairman, AMFI. His lucid style of explaining the fundamentals of mutual funds, complemented with a dose of humor, engrossed the audience.

This was followed by an overview of the Government Debt Market by Mr. A. Prasanna, ICICI Securities. Next was Group Warrior, a group paper presentation contest on 'Interest rates, Inflation and the Debt Market: Where are they headed?' The event was presided over by Dr. P. R. Joshi, Former Director at UTI and Prof. C. Chakrabarty, UTI Institute of Capital Markets. After a rigorous process of evaluation that involved penetrating questions asked by the judges, the top three were: -

Winners: NMIMS, Mumbai
1st Runner-up: IIT SOM, Mumbai
2nd Runner-up: NMIMS, Mumbai

Finally, some words from Prof. Suresh Ghai, Director, K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, marked the conclusion of the event. Investrix’04, thus, was an exciting mix of ideas and concepts and attempted to match youthful exuberance with the wisdom of experience.

The financial sector is changing slowly but surely and the markets are being exposed to global competition and expertise everyday. This is reflected in the ever-increasing challenges for finance professionals. With an uncertain future beckoning India, Investrix’04 attempted to look at the issues facing India in the coming years and what the finance tyros must be aware of. In all, the whole event helped sharing many thought provoking views and information, which would definitely facilitate an aspiring manager’s efforts of engaging, exploring and excelling in his career.
