Institution of NTPC Gold Medals for Excellence
At XIM, Bhubaneswar

"The Height of your Success equals the Depth of your Conviction"

The students of XIMB, today, got an opportunity to be addressed and to interact with Mr. K. K. Sinha, Director (HR) of NTPC. The occasion was to mark the institution of NTPC Gold Medals for Academic Excellence to be awarded every year to students who top in the merit list at XIMB. What was expected to be a formal ceremony of award institution, turned out to be a highly informative and enlightening session for everyone. The session started with a welcome address by Fr. E. Abraham, Director of XIMB, who introduced Mr. Sinha as one of the most dynamic administrators related to Policy-making, HR and Industrial Safety.

Mr. Sinha, a Gold Medallist in PG in Personnel Management from Patna University, has had an illustrious and rich work experience of more than four decades with several reputed Public Sector companies like Steel Authority of India Ltd. He joined NTPC in 1984 during its formative years. He has been committed to the task of building competence, commitment and cultural sensitivity at the workplace through Total Quality Management. He has played a vital role in the rapid growth achieved by NTPC from a capacity of 18KW to 21000MW. He was a part of the team involved in Team Building Study, Climate Survey / HR Strategies organization Transformation Study by A. T. Kearney involving Benchmarking projects in HR. Under his stewardship, the pioneering HR strategy of NTPC has resulted in the building a strong performance and people oriented culture. This was reflected in NTPC being rated 3rd in the ranking of "The Best Employer 2003" Survey done by Business Today-Hewitt Associates, and 1st among PSUs.

The mike was then taken over by Mr. S. Kumar, GM (HR), NTPC who outlined the details of the Institution of the Gold Medals. NTPC has contributed a sum of Rs.3,00,000/- which will form the corpus fund for the endowment of three NTPC Gold Medals for excellence to be awarded annually to students who top the merit list in different disciplines and to encourage students belonging to the SC/ST category. The medals will be given to the following category of students: -

  • NTPC Gold Medal for Excellence for one student topping the Merit list of SC/St Candidates in Rural Management.

  • NTPC Gold Medal for Excellence for one girl student topping the Merit List of the Institute.

  • NTPC Gold Medal for Excellence for one student topping the Merit List of SC/ST Candidates in HR Management.
