IT Majors eye XLRI for Tie-Ups

According to Professor A. K. Pani, Coordinator, System's Area, XLRI Jamshedpur, "The last 6 months have seen several leading IT firms going in for tie-ups with XLRI, Jamshedpur. Speaking at the recently concluded 5th National IT Seminar conducted by SOCRATES (SOCiety for the Rapid Assimilation of TEchnology and Systems), the student Systems Committee of XLRI, Mr. Ashish Bhatnagar, Head-Technology of Navision India, announced the setting up of a "Centre for Excellence" at the XLRI Campus beginning 3rd week of January 2004.

The center setup by Navision will initiate a course on 'Integrated Business Solutions', which will become a part of the XLRI curriculum. Navision India will provide an educational license to XLRI to include the course in its curriculum following which XLRI students will be able to take 'Integrated Business Solutions' course during their summer projects. As the course will proceed, the professors will be able to utilize their knowledge and build certain add-ons or verticals on these base solutions.

It is an initiative from XLRI and Navision India to ensure that the young managers who graduate from the institute are tech savvy and are exposed to business solutions and the role of IT in an organization.

As expressed by Mr. Yash Nagpal, MD of Navision India, "An understanding of Integrated Business Solutions, particularly from the stables of Microsoft, should start at the grass roots level and not at a late stage in a professional's life".

Further, the existing and future customers of Microsoft Business Solutions would benefit since the add-on solutions would have the recent management practices embedded into them. Microsoft® Business Solutions is also planning to create a Business School Management System and then market it to rest of the Business Schools in India.

According to Mr. Bhatnagar, the center will first start as "Navision Center for Excellence" and will then be upgraded to "Microsoft Center for Excellence" in a few years' time.
