IT Majors eye XLRI for Tie-Ups

Novell, one of the leaders in networking solutions have also expressed interest in collaborating with XLRI. In fact, Mr. Ranjeet Singh, Sr. Executive, Business Development, from Onward Novell India visited XLRI recently to explore the opportunity of providing Novell's Virtual Office solution for use by the XLRI student community as a campus information system portal.

Pramati Technologies

Several organizations are also looking forward to increase the level of tie-ups they earlier had with XLRI. This is the case with Pramati Technologies which is the leading provider of J2EE solutions in Asia. Pramati Technologies which had earlier joined hands with XLRI as an Education Partner is now planning to collaborate on the seminars conducted by XLRI on the emerging J2EE technologies through the systems programmes being offered to the corporates. Pramati Technologies has custom-made training modules, which will be delivered jointly under the XLRI-Pramati banner. Commenting on how the proposed collaboration will be fruitful to the students as well as the Systems Department faculty, Mr. Pawan Wasant Borle, Director-Human Resources, Pramati Technologies said, "Over time we have realized that Middleware Knowledge is increasingly becoming absolutely essential for Systems Managers while taking Enterprise level decisions for their organizations."

Empower Works/Polaris

Empower Works, founded in 1999 as a strategic business unit of Polaris Software Lab has expressed keen interest to establish the 'XLRI Adrenalin Center of Excellence' in early 2004. Empower Works is a global software solutions provider that specializes in delivering enterprise applications in the areas of web-based Human Resources, Employee & Manager Self-Service, Employee Work Process Automation & Reports.

The Center of Excellence will provide students, faculty and administrative staff high-value and functional software for strategic and functional HR, Self-Service, Analytical Reports and University Work Process Automation at no cost. This will extend a range of excellent individual productivity-enhancing capabilities for the use of XLRI faculty, administrative staff and students. The 'XLRI Adrenalin Center of Excellence' will also act as a research and study center that will provide students and faculty alike a preview of the latest advances in HRM systems that Empower Works has in development and provide them a structured and consistent opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of this system to account for new trends/concepts/workplace realities and study its evolution and development hands-on.

In addition, XLRI is also eyeing tie-ups with other IT bigwigs such as SAP, a major player in the ERP sector. Tata Steel has implemented SAP for Rs 80 crores. XLRI can conduct training programmes for local entrepreneurs to make them aware of the benefits of ERP, said Dr. Pani whose is also faculty advisor to SOCRATES. The 5th National IT Seminar conducted by SOCRATES in collaboration with CII at XLRI Jamshedpur whose theme was ERP II, witnessed a huge turnout of corporate delegates from several industries either with ERP implementations or with planned ERP installations.
