Vivek Khanchandani
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environment Management
Batch 2009-11,
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai.

  1. General Questions
  2. Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
  3. Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise
  4. Interview-related Questions
  5. After Joining MBA

Q. Were you able to get the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option that was open/available to you?
A. Not actually my first choice, but a college I was very much interested in, right below the IIMs in my opinion.

Q. Did work experience help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the curriculum?
A. Not much helpful in getting the b-school (IT workex is hardly a differentiator), but it does help in curriculum.

Q. After joining the school, did you ever wish that you should have known certain more things about the school before you became part of it? What are these ?
A. Nope. Did lots of research while choosing between MDI and NITIE, a well informed choice.

Q. What are the toughest area to handle in your studies?
A. Finance.

Q. Which one is your best subject?
A. Operations, closely followed by Marketing.

Q. Is there stress level during studies?
A. Frankly yes. But serene beauty makes it easier. The place is as such very soothing and relaxing, so things become easier.

Q. Who is the best faculty?
A. Prof. Sambandam, Operations.

Q. What's the best and most admirable feature of your institute?
A. Practical learning, and case study based pedagogy. Practical learning as in 6 months of internships (2+4), Mandi, etc.

Q. Scope of development in your existing curriculum.
A. Curriculum is revised regularly, and more electives are introduced regularly.

Q. Getting into and sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science graduate than for someone from Humanities background. Your comments, please.
A. NA for NITIE as we except only first class engineers. But as a general thing, I don't think there's much of a handicap. Mechanical engineers find operations slightly easier to handle, but not much difference otherwise.

Q. Tips for those who wish to do MBA from your school.
A. Be ready to have lots of fun, and be willing to learn on the streets also, as practical learning gets its due here.

Concluded.
