Objectives: Since the beginnings of the twentieth century, managers in the Health sector have come to rely heavily on data collection and data analysis in order to make their decisions. The Health sector includes private organizations such as pharmaceutical firms and insurance companies as well as governmental organizations such as NACO (National AIDS Control Society).
Examples of decision-making situations that use data analysis include but are not limited to drug-testing to see if a new drug is significantly better than an older drug; calculating the prevalence of and the mortality due to several diseases in order to set insurance premiums; and calculating HIV/AIDS prevalence and trends in India in order to scale up or scale down intervention efforts. Given this explosive growth in the use of statistics, particularly in the health sector, it has become increasingly important that those who manage health programmes or run hospitals possess the statistical understanding required to use statistics effectively. With higher level of globalization, there is increasing demand for data-based decision making in health programmes. In particular, sophisticated data analysis is necessary for organizations in the health sector to demonstrate quality of their services.

Aims of this proposed MDP are to enhance statistical understanding of key managers from health sector and arm them with the necessary statistical tools in order to improve decision making, planning and monitoring of health programmes and hospitals.
