Trait Theory

Assumptions

  • People are born with inherited traits.

  • Some of these traits are particularly suited for leadership.

  • People, who make good leaders, have the right (or sufficient) combination of such traits.

  • Seven Competencies of Effective Leader

  • Emotional Intelligence: Even when one son Vishnu was killed by another son Shankar, 'Sarkar' did not react, as he understood the reason behind that. Infact he never cried in the whole movie, showing his strong emotional stability.

  • Integrity: He had the capacity to walk his talks. Whatever he said, he did it. That brought him respect and a value to his persona. He had the right balance of all the qualities like honesty, truthfulness, patience, etc.

  • Drive: 'Sarkar' had the inner motivation of social welfare. So he had some goal behind all his deeds. So he was living his life purposefully with well-defined direction to his life.

  • Leadership Motivation: 'Sarkar' had a definite team to work with and he very well understood the need of socialized power to accomplish his goals. When he said, "Takat logon ko jodne se badhti hai, unhein khilaaf karne se nahin" (Strength lies in uniting people, not in diversifying them), it clearly states that he very much knows the need for his social acceptance.

  • Self Confidance: 'Sarkar' had the great confidence in him when he said, "Main vahi karta hoon, jo mujhe theek lagta hai, phir chahe vo system ke khilaaf ho..." (I do what feels right to be, even when it means going against the system), proves that he had the capability of doing the deeds confidently and clearly.

  • Intelligence: His far-sightedness and ability to discern the problems and, thus, solving them effectively proved this point.

  • Knowledge of the Business: 'Sarkar' had the thorough knowledge of his business as to who is in what kind of trade, how could one effect him, etc. When a character, Rashid, came to him to take permission of certain transaction in the city, he immediately understood that it was not good for public, which shows that he is a fully aware person.

  • Some other Leadership Qualities 'Sarkar' portrays are as follows: -

  • Unwavering Courage: Subhash Nagare shows a lot of courage, when he did not flow into a temper on getting blamed for killing a politician, even when he was innocent. He bravely faced the situation and supported the law at every stage.
