CHANGE: Securanet, the New Age Internet

by Paras Kapoor *

a) Network security breaches are escalating in both number and complexity. In order for business, government and consumers to entrust their mission-critical data and personal information to the public network, it must play a fundamental role in securing transmission and filtering attacks.

b) Enterprises are looking for ways to increase profitability, and governments to reduce cost, by leveraging existing networking and IT infrastructures. But, in order to realize these cost savings, the public network must become far more reliable and secure than the Internet today.

The solution is a Securanet. A Securanet is a move away from closed networks and proprietary solutions to selectively open networks and industry collaboration. A Securanet is a way to give each business and user his own unique slice of a secure public infrastructure and to change user expectations of its value, performance, predictability and security. And it is a way for businesses and consumers to select and be billed for the range of services and level of experience that is right for them.

This presents a huge challenge for the software and network designers to work on, but once solved, it changes into huge opportunity for the next generation technocrats to jump into and reap benefits. The opportunity is comparable to the natural spring that Evian Mineral water bought out in Alps some decades back, and any organization jumping into it should be sure of the profits of the same order.

Imagine a world of Internet, which allows you to access your mailbox without the fear of viruses, without the fear of your password getting hacked. Imagine Securanet. Imagine me getting rid of reading those 35 messages that were in fact generated by a virus. It was not my birthday.

Concluded.
