The market adoption for security solutions in 2004 was distributed among the large and medium-sized enterprises in the country. Typically, the inherent nature of these enterprises drove their need for these types of security solutions.
Their vast scale of operations, higher requirement for data protection in the light of increasing security awareness, protection for bigger, more complex networks, and connectivity were the main factors that propelled this market.

Vendors in the security software market were seen to be targeting verticals such as telecommunications, banking, finance and insurance, and the services sectors during 2004. These verticals have repositories of critical data and are spread across different regions of the country, they have a huge customer database to cater to on a real-time basis, and hence, they have a very high degree of necessity to protect against rundowns/intrusions on their IT infrastructure.

This has opened a new area of interest for Product vendors like Nortel, Cisco and RSA, along with Consultants and Integrators like Ernst & Young, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, KPMG, Wipro Infotech, Bangalore Labs, Global E-Secure, IBM Global Services, Microland, HCL Comnet, and Digital GlobalSoft.

What is Enterprise Security?

As organizations become more dependent upon the information systems that support their business critical functions, management faces the challenge of ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of these information systems, as well as protecting the related technology infrastructure. Enterprise security envisages managing all the components of the security solutions that the organization adopts. Over the years, IT security in the Indian enterprise has progressed from being a non-entity to an integral factor that cannot be ignored. Although there is much more to be desired on this front, these changes are indicators that the Indian corporate is becoming aware of the need to be secure.
