Admission Process

Q: How can one procure the application form for the various programs offered by your institute? What are the application submission deadlines?

One can procure application forms from the Office at both the campuses, as well various banks the list of which we release with each year's notification. One can also apply online.

Q: Please explain the various stages in admission process (along with time line) for each of the program offered by you. (E.g., written test, interview, group discussions, etc.)

Test conducted on 2nd Sunday of January, every year. No. of questions can change (175 in 2009, 200 in 2010) Interviews are conducted in 3rd week of March, only at North Campus, Delhi.

(For example: Test - conducted on Dec. 10, every year. 180 questions, 120 minutes, consists of four sections. (Each with 40, 50, 30… questions) Interviews: conducted during February, 30-45 minutes. In all metros)

Academic Background

Q: Are engineers more preferred over non-engineers?

No, Although the proportion of engineers is high in the batches, in line with the high proportion among applicant base.

Q: Is there a separate cut-off for engineers and non-engineers? Do you evaluate the two types of candidates differently?

No

Q: How important are grades in the selection process?

Grades are reasonably important, though not a critical factor in the selection process.

Ques: How do you take an applicant's undergraduate alma mater into consideration?

We don't look at the alma-mater, we look at the candidate.

Work Experience

Q: How important is work experience for the selection?

We give due regards to relevant work experience.

Q: What kind of work experience is preferred?

Any full time paid work experience is considered, and work experience that is in line with management, communications etc are preferred.

Q: What is the school's ideal amount of work experience?

There is no ideal amount of work experience. We have a healthy mix of all kinds.

Q: How much professional experience is too much? Is a candidate, say with 12 years of work experience, going to fit into the program?

There is no quantified method of giving marks for work-ex.

Interview

Q: What kinds of questions can an interviewee expect to hear during an interview?

The candidates can be asked questions about anything, ranging from himself to what he has done so far, and why he would like to do an MBA, specially from FMS.

Q: What attributes are you looking for when you interview candidates?

We are looking for 'thought leaders' who have the ability to take the world to greater heights.

Q: How long do your interviews last?

There is no set duration.

Q: Is a long interview better than a short interview?

It depends on the interview, not on the length.

Group Discussions

Q: What do you want to learn about candidates in GDs?

We want opinionated candidates who are able to think coherently and are able to express their thoughts well.

Q: Do you expect a thorough knowledge of the topic being discussed?

Yes, otherwise we won't be discussing the topic.

Q: What is the worst thing a candidate can do during GD?

The worst thing a candidate can do is to not allow others to speak in the GD.

Waiting List

Q: How many applicants are placed on wait list? And how many eventually make it off?

For 'x' seats, 2x no. of applicants are placed on the waitlist. The movement is different in different years.

Q: Ultimately, what is it that separates accepted applicants from the wait listed and denied folks?

Better performances when given a chance.

General

Q: How can applicants convince you and your staff that they are a good match for the program?

They should be clear why they want to do an MBA, and why they want to join FMS, and also, how they can contribute to the class.
