In the first year, a student is exposed to all facets of management and all the above areas. The choice of specialization is made in year two. Being exposed to all the fields, the choice of specialization depends on one's interests and capabilities, as well as the institutes' sources.

4. How to select an MBA institute?

There are many methods to select an institute; however, the best way of selecting a management institute is to go for the best in the country. Going to the best institutes ensures quality education, competitive peer group, good facilities, great atmosphere to pursue your studies and obviously the best jobs. If one is not sure of any factor, or if there is not much to choose from, then the best way to select an institute is by reputation. Some of the factors that you need to consider while selecting the institutes are: -

5. Should I choose a Degree or a Diploma?

The focus should always be to aim for the best B-schools in the country. Going by this thumb rule, one is assured of the course being recognized by a competent authority and by the industry at large.

The top management institutes offer either a Diploma or a Degree, depending on their affiliation / non-affiliation to a university. The IIMs, the best management institutes in India, offer a PGDBM - Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. JBIMS, Mumbai is affiliated to Mumbai University and offers an MMS - Masters in Management Studies.

6. Is the institute location an important factor to go by?

The location of an Institute is not important for the premier institutes. Employers seek out the best institutes irrespective of its location. However, for others, it would be better if the location is near a commercial hub so that even if employers do not visit the campus, the student has an opportunity to come in close contact with potential employers. Further, although these institutes may have very few permanent faculties, the school authorities can get industry specialists for teaching their students.
